How Advanced Wound Care Helped a Pennsylvania Patient Reclaim Her Life

A Rebirth Advanced Healing patient poses with her care team in Pennsylvania.

Patient Spotlight: Marilyn Quigg

When Marilyn Quigg moved into Celebration Villa of Nittany Valley, she brought with her a chronic venous stasis ulcer, a painful, non-healing wound on her right shin that had lingered for more than six months.

Traditional wound clinic visits and home health failed to deliver lasting results, and her condition was beginning to take a toll not just physically, but emotionally. She rarely left her room. The pain and appearance of the wound left her withdrawn and discouraged.

That’s when her care team was introduced to Rebirth Advanced Healing.

“Rebirth’s unique ability to provide grafts and wound care right in her apartment was a big relief,” said Trina Burton, a team member at Celebration Villa. “[Rebirth provider] Sean [McCartney] has gone above and beyond. He’s responsive, compassionate, and has developed a great relationship with Marilyn and her husband. She even looks forward to his visits, despite the occasional discomfort of treatment.”

Marilyn’s daughter echoed that sentiment:

“It has been a wonderful experience having Sean care for my mom. He’s shown so much care, compassion, and knowledge regarding every aspect of her wound care. Without this service, I don’t know where we’d be. Even the communication with our family has been great!”

Thanks to consistent care and the use of advanced grafting technology, Marilyn’s wound — once a 2.5 by 3 centimeter ulcer — has begun to shrink and show healthy signs of epithelialization. Drainage is down, pain is better managed, and most importantly, she’s coming out of her room again.

“To finally see progress is exciting,” Trina said. “I look forward to continuing to watch the healing process.”
